Culture is one of the impetuses of development that can not only promote economic growth and national unity, but also increase public consensus and soft power. At present, globalization, informatization and social transformation are shaping people’s attitude and practice toward culture. How to maintain cultural diversity and share the different cultures as well as increase cultural competition are key issues in the development of culture. Judging from this, Shanghai Administration Institute will host an international academic conference on “Culture, Reform and Development” on October 24-25, 2014 at SAI. We will invite experts, scholars and leaders in this field both at home and abroad to SAI to discuss the frontline theories and practice in cultural development.

Those who have relevant studies or have interest in cultures and values are welcomed to prepare articles and address in the conference. Young scholars and graduates are also welcomed to participate in this conference.

Theme of the conference:

Culture: Reform and Development

Sub-topics:

a. Studies on theories and practice of culture both in China and abroad.

b. Research on cultural values and development philosophy.

c. Experience of city culture development and case studies both in China and abroad.

d. The impact of globalization on cultural diversity and countermeasures.

e. How to maintain cultural diversity in transition and developing countries.

f. Research on cultural relics and how to preserve traditional culture.

g. Research on competitiveness of cultural and creative industries and related policies.

h. The impact of Internet and digitalization on culture and countermeasures.

Papers are invited on any of or not limited to the above topics. Papers may be research-based or evidence-based, or may deal with theory or practice, etc. If you wish to present a paper, please remember the following requirements:

• Papers should reflect the conference theme: Culture, Reform and Development

• The working languages of the conference are English and Chinese. Simultaneous interpreters are available.

• Papers should be presented within 20 minutes.

• A conference paper consists of:

    ° Title of the paper

    ° Name(s) of author(s), including institution, city and country

    ° Abstract of approximately 300 words, summarizing the presentation

    ° Full text

    ° E-mail contact address

• Important dates:

° Submit of Abstract by Aug. 30, 2014

• The full paper with abstract should be submitted to SAI at promisingherman@126.com no later than Sept 30, 2014. Earlier submission would be appreciated.

• Papers submitted after this date will not be able to print out at the conference. Speakers are therefore urged to comply with this deadline.
