From May 13 to 15, a delegation led by the President of South Africa’s O.R. Tambo School of Leadership (African National Congress Party School) visited Shanghai Administration Institute(SAI). Vice President Wang Yongjie hosted the meeting.
Wang Yongjie extended a warm welcome to Mr. Makura and his delegation. He introduced SAI’s functions and positioning, disciplinary development, and international exchanges, and systematically reviewed its academic exchanges with African countries, particularly South Africa, in recent years. Wang noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, as well as the “China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.” He expressed hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity for both sides to carry forward their traditional friendship, strengthen mutual learning among civilizations, and further deepen exchanges on governance experience.

Mr. Makura thanked SAI for its warm hospitality and introduced the history, vision, and other basic information of O.R. Tambo School of Leadership, as well as the long-standing friendly relations between the African National Congress and the Communist Party of China. He emphasized that both African and Chinese civilizations cherish the ideal of peace and that the peoples of South Africa and China have enjoyed a long history of friendly exchanges. He expressed his hope that the two institutions would establish a long-term cooperative relationship and jointly contribute to implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state on building an all-round China-Africa strategic partnership in the new era.
During the exchange meeting, officials responsible for teaching, research, and policy consultation introduced the institution’s work in these areas. The two sides held in-depth discussions on teaching methods, curriculum design, research cooperation, policy advisory work, and international exchanges. Following the meeting, Mr. Makura and his delegation toured SAI’s history museum, themed classrooms, training facilities, and other teaching venues.
During their stay in Shanghai, the delegation from O.R. Tambo School of Leadership also visited the China Executive Leadership Academy Pudong, China Institute of Fudan University, and Gubei Civic Center.
