Recently, the National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences announced the approval results of 2023 National Social Science Fund Projects and Youth Projects. SPA/SAI won eight national projects, including five general projects and three youth projects. In addition, the Pudong New Area Party Institute of CPC also won 1 general project submitted by SPA/SAI. The comprehensive project approval rate reached 11.3%.
Together with the two major projects on “Studying and Interpreting the Spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China” that have become key projects and won approval at the beginning of the year, SPI/SAI has won 10 national projects in the year, ranking among the top in the national Party school (administration institute) system.
In recent years, SPI/SAI has strengthened teachers’ position as the major role, enhanced the leadership of discipline leaders, and improved the organizational structure of the Department of Scientific Research Management. It pays attention to targeted guidance, provides refined services, selects the best of the best, and constantly improves the project approval rate. Given the rapid progress in 52 ongoing research projects, two progress meetings are held each year. Mechanisms such as pre-warning supervision and academic leave are used to accelerate high-quality completion of projects on time and release new productivity to ensure the project approval rate.
The approval of National Social Science Fund Projects this year reflects three characteristics. First, project categories are more balanced. Among the 10 projects, there are two key projects, five general projects and three youth projects. Second, SPI/SAI has preponderant disciplines. The projects that have won approval come from three disciplines----the Party History and Party Building (three projects), Marxism-Leninism and Scientific Socialism (three projects), and Political Science (two projects). In addition, there is one project each in Sociology and Demography. Third, it shows a good trend of sustainable development. This time, six teachers won national projects for the second time, and four young teachers (including one postdoctoral teacher) have won national projects for the first time.
It is reported that this year, the National Social Science Fund continued to adopt the method of moderate quota application. It finally announced 4,790 projects (slightly higher than last year), including 125 projects in the national Party school (administration institute) system.
