Recently, the project review for the 2023 Shanghai “Chinese Culture Going Global” Special Support Fund and the Selection for the 2023 Shanghai “Silver Dove Awards” released their results. After the experts' review, the book Why Shanghai?—The Stories of Chinese Modernization compiled by SPI won the "Excellence Award" of the 2023 Shanghai "Silver Dove Awards" in the publishing category. This is the first time that SPI has participated in such a provincial and ministerial-level foreign publicity product selection event and won an Excellence Award.

　　The Chinese-English bilingual version of Why Shanghai?—The Stories of Chinese Modernization was published by the National Academy of Governance Press in November 2023. Full of pictures and texts, the book describes 15 stories that reflect Shanghai's high-quality development, high-quality life, high-efficiency governance and high-level opening up in Chinese-style modernization. Each story discusses a big topic through small things and a class of issues through a single one, describing people, things and emotions, and including the scientific thinking with SPI features. Having integrated the political, scientific, professional and dissemination elements, these stories demonstrate the Chinese characteristics and bright prospects of Chinese-style modernization.

　　This book is an integrated reflection of the international programs, curriculum systems and teaching staff cultivation in SPI's years of open education. It is a fruit of the collective wisdom of the entire institute, involving multiple departments and disciplines. It is also SPI's first international bilingual textbook that tells the stories of Chinese-style modernization in Shanghai. This book has contributed to SPI's goals of continuously improving the international communication capabilities, telling the stories of Shanghai, expanding international influence, and enhancing international exchanges and cooperation under the new situation.

　　We have learned that the selection for the 2023 Shanghai "Silver Dove Awards" focused on four major directions: international expression of Chinese culture, promoting Shanghai's image to the world, building the capabilities of global narrative and expanding the international circle of friends. The selection also focused on finding demonstrative and guiding international communication works and projects with precise communication, effective reaching and innovative performance. The 2023 Shanghai "Silver Dove Awards" selection drew more than 650 works and projects. After the experts' review, 207 works and projects won the "Best Award" and the "Excellence Award".
