On March 30, at the 2023 Shanghai United Front Research and Publicity Work Conference, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee announced the establishment of nine Shanghai Research Bases of the Party’s United Front in the New Era (hereinafter referred to as “Research Bases”). Shanghai Research Base of the Party’s United Front in the New Era in Shanghai Party Institute of CPC was one of them.

　　Shanghai is the birthplace of Party’s united front policy and an important center for united front work. It boasts rich historical and cultural resources and strong research forces for the united front. In order to thoroughly study and implement General Secretary XI Jinping’s important thought on doing a good job in building the Party’s united front in the new era, conduct historical research on the theory and practice of the united front, promote the integration and development of theory and practice and build a research platform for the overall pattern for the research on the united front, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee has recently established nine Shanghai Research Bases of the Party’s United Front in the New Era.

　　Shanghai Research Base of the Party’s United Front in the New Era (at SPI) has followed the guidance of General Secretary XI Jinping’s important thought on doing a good job in building the Party’s united front in the new era according to developments in this field in Shanghai and served the efforts to build a nationwide united front. The Base focuses on integrating superior resources of SPI, establishes a working mechanism integrating teaching, training, academic research, and decision-making consultation, and conducts in-depth investigations, research, and theoretical explorations around key and difficult issues in building a united front. It insists on analyzing politics from an academic perspective, adopting a problem-oriented approach and pursuing innovation-driven development, conducting in-depth research on important theoretical and practical issues of the united front in the new era, and promoting a high-quality development of united front work in the new era with theoretical innovation.

　　ZENG Jun, Vice President of SPI, serves as the administrative director of the Base (at SPI), ZHAO Gangyin, Director of the Department of Party Building, serves as the administrative director, and ZHOU Jianyong, Deputy Director of the Department of Party Building, serves as the deputy executive director. The Base adheres to joint contribution by multiple departments and disciplines and integrates Party building, scientific socialism, the history of CPC, proper leadership and other superior teaching and research resources. A backbone team with excellent scientific research capabilities and strong innovation has been built to further promote the training of interdisciplinary talents in the research of united front theories, and establish a team for the research on theories and policies related to the united front in multiple fields, at multiple levels and on different echelons.

　　The United Front Work Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee will actively recommend research bases to apply for major projects of the National Social Science Fund of China, Philosophy and Social Science Projects of Shanghai Municipality, and projects launched by the United Front Work Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee. Excellent research results will be included in the “Series of Research on Building the Party’s United Front in Shanghai” for publication and participation in the selection of innovative achievements in the research on united front theories and policies. Support will be provided for the Base to cooperate with the united front system in Shanghai and democratic party organizations.
