Indonesian Senior Diplomats at Shanghai Administration Institute for Further Study

    As entrusted by the Training Center of Chinese Academy of Governance, Shanghai Administration Institute (SAI) received Indonesian senior diplomats who came for further study on December 9. The class consisted of 24 senior diplomats from various departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among whom 21 are at the ministerial and bureau level and 3 at division level or below it.

    On the morning of that day, Provost MEI Lihong met the class members with enthusiasm and made a basic introduction to SAI. The directors of the Foreign Affairs Office and Training Division accompanied to meet the trainees. Professor WANG Zhiping, Director of the Teaching and Research Department of Economics, lectured on the theme of “Shanghai’s Economic Development and Building up a Service-oriented Government”. In the afternoon, the trainees visited Shanghai Waigaoqiao No.3 Power Generation Co., Ltd. and China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone for on-the-spot training. The trainees actively discussed with the teachers on such problems as capacity cooperation and innovative development, the status quo of the reform of state-owned enterprises and the positioning of Shanghai in the strategy of “One Road and One Belt”. The whole course of the on-the-spot training went on in a heated atmosphere.

    Mr. Odo R. M. Manuhutu, the monitor of the training class and Director of SESPARLU, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, on behalf of the training class, expressed his gratitude for the thoughtful arrangement and warm reception by Shanghai Administration Institute. He said it was a rare opportunity for the class members to learn the experience of the successful development of Shanghai by learning how to train Shanghai local intermediate and senior civil servants, and how to lay a solid foundation for sound development through training. He said that China had many similarities with Indonesia in training and management of civil servants, as well as lots of differences worth reference. Shanghai Administration Institute shared the best practices and solutions with the class through latest teaching methods such as scenario simulation, case study and discussion-based teaching, which enhanced communication among the trainees and increased the effectiveness of the training. These methods were worth learning. He also expressed his hope for strengthening cooperation and exchanges in the future.
