The Class of Entrepreneurs program team of No. 5 Branch of SPI has been attaching great importance to training subjects. By incorporating teaching schedule, faculty selection,training methods and organization & management into the frame of the established subject, they create a training design process,the steps of which are establishing a subject on the basis of investigation and research, breaking down a subject into modules, detailing a subject on the platform of course and sublimating a subject by taking forms as the carrier. Furthermore, they continually enrich and improve the “subject-oriented” training model on the basis of new situations and tasks, leading to high acknowledgement for the training performance.
Taking No.9 Class of Entrepreneurs as an example, before starting the class, the program team conducted a series of investigations and researches by studying policies, issuing questionnaires, retrieving documents, making interviews, and collecting comments from the Organization Department of Shanghai CPC Party Committee and the competent Party committees, to determine the theme of the class as “following five concepts to continuously improve innovation capability of enterprises”.
The determination of the subject provides the basis to determine clear teaching modules and improve the pertinence and effectiveness of the training courses. By summarizing teaching experience and making horizontal comparison with other related programs outside the school, the program team divides the subject into three modules: “Views of Entrepreneurs”, “Growth of Entrepreneurs: Establishment of Innovation Capability System” and “Entrepreneurs Discipline”. The courses and teaching schedules for each module are fully featured with “different key points for the subject, proper beginning and ending, and good sequence”.
Taking “opening-up”out of the five concepts of “innovation, harmony, environment-friendliness, opening-up and sharing” for example, the program team carefully studied the profound meaning of the argument of “to reform and open up, we must follow the trend of integrating the economy of China with the world economy, practice the strategy of mutual and win-win benefits, develop open economy at a higher level, proactively participate in the global economic governance and public products supply, enhance China's right of speech, and construct an extensive community for benefits”, and determined “internationalization of Chinese businesses” as the key item to detail the subject and “improve the innovative thoughts of business leaders in internationalization” as the emphasis of the training class, and arranged proper beginning and ending, and good sequence in the module of “Growth of Entrepreneurs: Establishment of an Innovation Capability System”, including innovation of commercial models on the background of internationalization, internationalization process of old brands of Shanghai, and risk prevention in “going out” of state-owned businesses, and etc.
The program team believes that it can use all factors for practical effectiveness of the training class to improve the business leaders’work efficiency and effect. For example, the flexibility of training models decides whether a subject can be taken in by trainees in terms of their thinking model, whether trainees are able to proactively adjust their mental model according to the subject, and whether the training proceeds are in a scientific way. Therefore, based on these features, the program team selects different training models: the model of “double-teachers (one teacher and one entrepreneurship supervisor)” from colleges and universities is determined for “Innovation of Commercial Model”, and mini-cases on innovation of commercial model will be discussed on the basis of comparison and analysis of the commercial model in the opening-up economy. For “Internationalization of Old Brands of Shanghai”, the national model workers and outstanding representatives of successful “going out” of state-owned businesses as well as entrepreneurs will be invited to give a “strategy representation” and create an on-site “brain storm” by innovative ideas for internationalization, presenting a good chance for trainees to enjoy the dedication spirit of entrepreneurs. For “Risk Prevention in “Going Out” of State-owned Businesses”, structural discussion will be conducted, during which trainees are encouraged to take group learning and use the tool of group decision-making so that they can experience a “sensed presence” strategy planning and flexible management in the international business environment.
According to many trainees, the three-module teaching is tightly and properly arranged, fully showing the organic combination between the leading idea of “opening up” and the practice in large enterprises and groups in Shanghai, between the object of cultivating international strategy thinking pattern and the object of practicing business leaders" strategy-implementation capabilities, and between capability enhancement and thoughts improvement. The training features key items, good arrangement and creative model, so as to enable trainees to find motive for better approaches to think, get specific knowledge for better mental models, and achieve power for international competition. Trainees also hope that the program team can summarize its experience in the training and continually explore the effective use of the subject-module-course-model in the class of entrepreneurs to lay a solid foundation for establishment of the program brand.
