On the morning of 6^th, Nov., Professor Anthony Saich of Harvard Kennedy School, famous China expert, was invited to lecture at Scientific Development Forum with the theme of “Changing China and the World”. Provost MEI lihong hosted the forum. Six classes, including the 98^th Leading Cadres Training Class, the 50^th Young and Middle-aged Cadres Training Class, the 58^th Rotational Training Class for Cadres of Division Level at Party and Government Organizations, and the 82^nd Position Holding Training Class for Cadres of Division Level attended the forum.

    Mr. Saich firstly explained the New Normal of Chinese economy by citing related researches, pointed out the factors influencing China’s economic development and made anticipations on future direction of Chinese economy. Later, he analyzed the geopolitical impacts on East Asia resulted from China’s economic growth and the response of USA to the rising of China as well. On this basis, Mr. Saich suggested that with the rising of China, the world power order need restructuring and the US and China should enhance mutual trust and remove misgivings, and jointly meet new challenges brought by globalization.

    The report of professor Saich plays an important role on widening international horizon and cultivating strategic thinking for the trainees with its adequate data and powerful argument.

    Anthony Saich is the director of Asia and China Public Policy Program, the executive committee member of Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies of Harvard Kennedy School and the member of National Committee on United States-China Relations. His main research fields include China’s politics and governance, the urbanization and the rural-urban inequality in China and the interplay between state and society in Asia. Professor Saich had visited our institute and given lectures for several times.
