Under the entrustment of the Training Center of the Chinese Academy of Governance (CAG), the civil servants from English-speaking African countries visited Shanghai Administration Institute (SAI) and took part in an opening ceremony for their class of further studies in public administration on May 21. CHENG Cize, Deputy Director of the Training Center of CAG, MEI Lihong, Director of Education of SAI, along with the heads of the Foreign Affairs Division and the Training Division of SAI attended the class opening ceremony.
Deputy Director CHENG Cize stressed at the ceremony that the opening of this further-studies class showed that the Chinese government highly values the cooperation with African countries in human resources. The class is held for the purpose of mutual exchange and so as to enhance understanding, share experience and consolidate friendship between China and African countries. MEI Lihong, SAI Dean delivered an enthusiastic welcome to the class and gave a brief introduction to SAI.
The class visited SAI with an aim to learn the reform of public administration of Shanghai Municipal Government. And Professor RONG Zhi from the Public Administration Teaching and Research Department of the Institute gave an English lecture titled "Shanghais Practice and Experience in Public Administration and Public Services" and had communication and interaction with the participants about relevant issues.
Mr. Ampaire Alex, monitor of the class who is from Kiboga District Government of Uganda, on behalf of the participant officials from different African countries for the training, expressed his appreciation for SAI for great advanced experience they had acquired from the course. "This class is, so to speak. another small milestone in the development of the Sino-Africa friendship, which helps China and the African countries to learn more about each other. China has maintained a sound relationship and multi-cooperation with Africa and we are grateful for the aid and support offered by the Chinese Government to Africa. China is a country brave enough to take action, and these actions have enabled China to develop by leaps and bounds since the start of reform and opening-up more than three decades ago."
There were 26 government officials from 12 African countries in the class, including 3 with Director-General titles and 23 with Division Director ones. The trainees were from twelve countries: Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Malawi, Egypt, Ghana, South Sudan, Sudan, Seychelles, Uganda, Nigeria, Namibia and South Africa. They work respectively in ministries of justice, taxation, public service, the interior, cabinet affairs, agriculture, labor and public health of these countries.
