The international symposium on Transforming Societies-Transforming Political Parties was held on September 23 and 24, which was sponsored by Shanghai Administration Institute (SAI) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES). The symposium was attended by the scholars from China, Germany, Britain, Netherland, France and Kenya in the research area of political parties, the administration, etc.

The whole symposium comprised four sessions. The first session dealt with the transformations of societies, the innovation of technologies and their relations with the political parties. The second session concerned about how new modes of medias change the way of political communication. The third session discussed the structural change of political party. The last session concentrated on the relationship between the transforming political parties, states and the societies. The experts and scholars from different countries made an in-depth discussion about those themes, which promoted the theoretical research of those themes. Moreover, the symposium has also strengthened the cooperation between the SAI and the FES.
